Fisheries & Fishery Management

Cluster Members

Scientists in the fisheries and fishery management cluster have diverse research interests, ranging from fisheries stock assessments to the investigation of the roles of ecological and physiological processes on life history and population dynamics. Also of interest to members of this group is how fishery regulations affect the humans who are dependent upon the sustainability of the fishery for economic survival.

Studies conducted by the fisheries research group relate to ecological and social factors relevant to maintaining sustainable fisheries in Monterey Bay, along the coast of California, and worldwide.

The National Marine Fisheries Service, Southwest Fishery ScienceCenter, Santa Cruz lab, located at the Long Marine Marine Science Campus supports 70 scientists and staff, whose research focus is on the scientific basis of Pacific Coast groundfish conservation, and management and recovery of threatened and endangered anadromous in California.
