I have been studying freshwater fish across California since 2005, with the last 10 years focused on using acoustic telemetry to estimate movement and survival rates of outmigrating juvenile salmon. I am interested in the relationship between environmental factors and outmigration success for juvenile salmon and steelhead migrating through the Sacramento River watershed, and identifying critical locations of low survival during their journey out to sea. More specifically, I am passionate about using our research findings to help restore the few remaining runs of wild spring-run Chinook salmon in California's Central Valley, which are State and Federally listed as threatened and currently persist in just a handful of Sacramento River tributaries.
